£500 First prize for 1st Chard Wheelers New Cycling Road Race
The race is being supported by Mckinlays Estate Agents and well known cycle clothing supplier Provision and a variety of local businesses; the race will have an attractive prize list with £500 for the winner. There will also be awards for local riders and a King of the Mountains competition.

Access to the headquarters is easy, Horton near Ilminster being only eight miles from junction 25 of the M5 and immediately adjacent to the main A303.
Based on a new 11 ½ mile course on the edge of the Blackdown Hills; the race will start and finish in Horton village itself , with six laps of the tough circuit which includes a major climb of over a mile to the hill prime, before dragging on for a further mile to the highest point on the circuit. Needless to say the rest of the circuit will be typically rolling West Country roads, which should encourage aggressive racing, in the 68 mile race.
The race is being backed by the locals in Horton village, and there will be food and refreshments available while the race is on and afterwards. The club is hoping for a good turn out from local cyclists to see a good quality filed compete on the new circuit.

The Mckinlays road race is a return to top class promotions by the club, which through the 1960s and 70s ran a series of major events including the Professional Road Race Championships.
